Bonsai The Pup Was Born With Only Half A Body But Still Lives A Full Life

Bonsai The Pup Was Born With Only Half A Body But Still Lives A Full Life

It sounds like the fodder of science fiction, but this story is completely true!

This is Bonsai, the precious bulldog born in April of last year with multiple rare deformities. He was born to an Arkansas English Bulldog breeder, with quite a laundry list of complexities as a result of irresponsible breeding.

This poor pup was born with a human condition called Caudal Regression (sacral agenesis) and Sacrocaudal Dysgenesis, likely combined with a variation of Spina Bifida. In addition, Bonsai was born a “Walrus Puppy” (water pup), which means he was filled with fluid, which took away his mobility. This led to a condition known as “Swimmer’s Syndrome.”

Basically, the pup was born with only half a spine, no pelvis, and tiny contracted legs. Unsure of how to approach this rare case, his rescuers decided a bilateral amputation on both his hind legs would be for the best, since they only cause the poor puppy pain.

This is an x-ray of the pooch’s remaining skeleton after the surgery.
