In a strange story of surrogacy from the UK, a 45-year-old woman gave birth to her own grandson after his mother was left infertile.
When Jessica Jenkins was diagnosed with cervical cancer at 18, it seemed she was too young to have such unfortunate luck fall upon her. After years of painful cancer treatment, she has finally gotten her life back in order. Earlier this year, Jessica and her husband decided they wanted to have children, but there was just one problem.
Cancer treatment made it impossible for Jessica to birth babies of her own. Before the treatments began, doctors were able to salvage 21 eggs though only 10 survived. The eggs were made into embryos grown for two weeks before being frozen a few years back.
Once the tragedy was behind her, the young woman needed a surrogate and in a strange twist, her mother stepped up to carry her child for her. 45-year-old Julie Bradford said it was an honor to carry the couple’s child.
“We’ve spent a lot of time in hospitals and it has become normal to us. I’m just so happy that this last visit was for such a wonderful reason,” she added.
