If you think the holidays don’t make people crazy, you will after you read this story.
A man in the UK held two Amazon delivery truck drivers hostage after a bizarre mix-up over a mattress. Dean Smith, from Tavistock, held the Panther Group delivery staff hostage at the side of a country road after missing the 10 am delivery of his mattress.
The mattress was right there, but the delivery men said they would return tomorrow.
According to Smith, he missed that oh-so-elusive window for delivery and arrived just as the men were pulling away. A furious Smith demanded they hand over the mattress and went as far as to hold the men hostage until they do so. The dispute got ugly and authorities were called to the scene after what must have been the funniest dispatch call a telephone operator has ever heard.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson confirmed officers were called to deal with the incident, and the mattress was handed over upon their arrival. Apparently, no further action was required for the situation to be resolved.
Panther Group is a sub-contractor that works with Amazon. A spokesperson from Amazon said the incident is being investigated.
