Sometimes life doesn’t give you time to think. You can either act fast, or the moment will pass you by.
This was the situation a man named Raden Soemawinata was in when he saw a dog get blown into the ocean by a strong gust of wind. Sue Drummond of Melbourne, Australia, was walking her Maltese-Shih Tzu mix named Bibi when the tiny dog was swept off a pier and into the ocean by the violent 60mph winds.
Within seconds, the little pup was fighting for her life, and Sue froze with fear. Drummond watched as Bibi helplessly tried to doggy paddle back to the pier.
That’s when 20-year-old bystander Raden stripped down to his underwear and jumped in after Bibi.
Raden didn’t know Sue of Bibi, but he knew he had to do something to help.
He had been walking along the pier that day, scattering his grandmother’s ashes.
He plunged into the water and put his life at risk to save little Bibi. Drummond was in tears.
She was so happy Bibi was safe and eternally grateful that a stranger would do something so kind for her.
Bibi, who was seemingly unaware of the drama that unfolded, went back to her warm home and was fed by her owner.
Following the incident, Raden was awarded the Compassionate Citizen Award by Animals Australia for his “selflessness and bravery.”
