There is nothing worse in life than losing a child, even if they haven’t even been born yet.
Any parent who has ever had miscarried child knows exactly how heartbreaking such a tragedy can be, but that’s exactly why when a pregnancy follows, there is extra cause for celebration.
We loving hearing more and more about women celebrating their pregnancies with “rainbow babies”, the little miracles who are conceived after miscarriage or a failed pregnancy. No one knows this better than Jessica and Kevin Mahoney of Connecticut, parents of a son named Corbin, who have finally become pregnant again after six miscarriages with a second child.
To celebrate and remember their tiny miracle, Kevin asked pregnancy photographer JoAnn Marrero to do something extra special for his wife’s maternity shoot.
“Through it all, Jess stood with composure and her pregnancy glow came shining through, along with a whole lot of laughter,” JoAnn told the Huffington Post. “This was definitely her moment ― such a proud mother-to-be for the second time.”
JoAnn said it was exciting to see her portrait of Jessica and her rainbow baby bump go viral for herself as a photographer and for the family, who has been through so much already. “I’m so happy with the end result for numerous reasons, both personal and professional,” she told Huffington Post. “Jess also happens to be my friend and neighbor, and I am so proud of her for never giving up hope and Corbin will finally get to be a big brother!”
Mom-to-be Jessica shared how much the experience has changed her with JoAnn. “Six babies lost to have the honor to carry this rainbow baby,” the mom wrote to Huffington Post. “I hope my story helps someone else to know they are not alone, as the journey of loss and infertility is dark and lonely.”
