Since 2013, North Korea has imposed strict rules on which hairstyles adults can have. There are 30 government approved haircuts, 15 for men and 15 for women, that are allowed. No matter which option a person chooses, they’re going to be wearing one of the latest hairstyle trends of the ‘50s.
Keep it Short
For young men, the length of their hair must remain shorter than 5cm (about 2 inches), though older men are allowed to grow there’s as long as 7cm (about 3 inches). For women, the exact lengths of their hair are subject to less exact regulation. The only rule is that married women must keep their hair short, while unwed women may wear it longer. Anyone caught with an unsanctioned haircut gets a beating.
