Celebrity can be both a blessing and a curse. You get paid gobs of money to do what you love, but the cost of it all is your privacy; every single aspect of your life is now out there for the entire world to scrupulously sift through and comment on.
One of those things that’s most bandied about, is how some of these famous folks smell. This list is a compilation of all the stinkiest stars out there today.
As handsome as Brad Pitt is, there have been rumors swirling around for years about his poor hygiene and allegedly pungent odor. He apparently confessed to Inglourious Basterds co-star Eli Roth about how, between six children and filming all day, he doesn’t really have time to shower. Instead, he uses baby wipes to clean himself while filming.
The hygiene and indeed sanity of Brad’s former wife and latest paramour, Jennifer Aniston has recently come into question by way if her former roommate, Nancy Balbirer. Apparently, Aniston and Balbirer used to share an NYC apartment when the actress was just starting out. Aniston would apparently do things like wax her bikini line on their shared couch and stuff her bra with actual chicken cutlets (yes the food!) before auditions.
A few years ago, famous bathroom barefooter and former teen idol Britney Spears was ousted from an airplane because her feet were apparently so smelly that everyone around her complained. In addition to poor foot hygiene, Britney is reported to have some pretty gross personal habits like smoking indoors, burping, and farting unabashedly.
Gwyneth Paltrow has been in the news a number of times for her new age tastes in transcendental meditation, cupping therapy, and several other holistic remedies of sorts. As such, she has eschewed a number of products that she believes to be harmful, including deodorant apparently; which she believes contains aluminum that might cause breast cancer.
Actor Matthew McConaughey has also sworn off deodorant entirely for over 20 years. The way he tells it, “I don’t like to smell like someone or something else,” he told PEOPLE, adding, “If my smell starts to bother someone else, I’ll take a shower.” His sometime costar Kate Hudson is one of those people and she always brings him a natural deodorant, just in case.
This may seem like a trend among celebrities and apparently, Julia Roberts is among them. She told Oprah that she doesn’t actually use deodorant. She allegedly isn’t too fond of soap either and has been reported to go days without showering or washing her hair, which she says is too dry to wash daily. That may be true, but it doesn’t mean she should neglect her hygiene.
There are many folks who would question the sanity of actress-turned-singer Miley Cyrus based solely on her over-the-top performances and wardrobe. This apparently extends to her hygiene as well. She reportedly once wore someone else’s retainer, a dental implement known for being a hotbed of germs.
Bradley Cooper is a self-admitted stinker. Like Julia, Gwyneth, and Matthew above, he apparently hasn’t use deodorant for some time now. He is allegedly doing his best to compensate for this, however, by making sure he takes showers up to three times a day: once in the morning, once after a hard day filming or a workout, and once before bed.
It doesn’t take a genius to see that reality star Kourtney Kardashian is physically beautiful, but if you listen to Scott Disick, the father of her children, you’ll find out that the beauty does not extend to her scent. Kourtney also heard that conventional deodorant is bad for breastfeeding and has opted instead to use a WikiHow concoction of baking soda and cornstarch.
She may flash her smile for the cameras just like the rest of Hollywood but apparently, Jessica Simpson’s bright, toothy grin is hiding something quite stinky. She recently confessed to Ellen DeGeneres that she hardly ever brushes her teeth because she doesn’t like to feel them too slippery. She admits that she does floss and use Listerine but still, that’s still a good way to lose them suckers.
Actor Shia LaBeouf is known for doing his share of crazy publicity stunts, but he apparently went a little too far while filming the World War II epic, Fury. LeBeouf wanted to feel like he was really in the thick of it. He allegedly pulled out his own tooth and then refused to shower for weeks on end. Though some who know him say this is not simply method acting, it’s just Shia.
It doesn’t matter how handsome or talented you are, if you stink, people are gonna talk about it. The Greatest Showman star Zac Efron is apparently not a big fan of showering, according to a source in Star magazine. He apparently works out hard then goes days without showering. If he needs to freshen up, he apparently reaches for the baby wipes, just like Brad Pitt.
Like so many other smelly celebrities, actress Cameron Diaz is allegedly no fan of deodorant, antiperspirant to be precise. She isn’t wrong of course, many studies have been done linking antiperspirant to things like breast cancer, but that doesn’t mean you gotta sport pit stains on the red carpet.
Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio is as far from the obsessive-compulsive character he played in the Aviator. DiCaprio is a big fan of going green and according to one source for the National Enquirer, doesn’t even like to waste water showering. He also eschews deodorant and only showers once or twice a week in order to “do his part” for the environment.
Twilight and Harry Potter alum Robert Pattinson may strike a pretty clean-cut figure, but beauty is only skin deep. It is reported that he didn’t see the point of washing his hair or even cleaning his apartment between shoots. According to sources close to the actor, he also doesn’t shower unless it suits him and his smell bothers everyone on set.
Pattinson’s Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart is also no fan of regular bathing and allegedly avoids it whenever possible. The ensuing stench that hangs about her is compounded by the fact that she doesn’t wash her hair, brush her teeth, or wear perfume to cover it up at all. Apparently, while they were dating the stinky pair seemed like they were meant for each other.
Just like the above exes, when actor Johnny Depp and singer Vanessa Paradis were together, you could see flies in their wake. A source at Fox News reports that neither of these folks likes to shower often and their personal hygiene is not among their priorities. One must wonder, if bathing isn’t a priority for these people, what is?
Like Britney Spears, Shailene Woodley is someone who has no problem shedding the shoes to walk barefoot in even the most unhygienic of places; though she never went into a public restroom that way. Shailene is also a naturalist and chooses to wash her hair only once a month to conserve the oils in it. As such, she’s got a bit of a smell about her that people can’t help but notice.
Viggo Mortensen allegedly lived like a real ranger while playing Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings films. He lived rough for a time, sleeping in the woods, thankfully not in his costume leathers, and choosing not to bathe. Toronto Star got the whole scoop from Sean Bean, his costar, who said he was very smelly.
Finally, we have veteran actor Russell Crowe, who’s body odor has been reported to be as foul as his temper is short. Crowe’s body odor issue is so bad that many folks prefer to sit downwind of him at award shows. His friends, of course, blame this on his taste for curry and alcohol and the fact that he’s a very down-to-earth guy.
