Sometimes looks can be deceiving. Especially when you’re an adorable old lady, who looks like the worst crime she ever committed was leaving the apple pie in the oven for too long.
Authorities became suspicious of one particular old lady after they noticed how many times she had remarried. Police soon figured out a shocking theme in her life and it wasn’t at all a coincidence…
Who Is Melissa?
Melissa Anne Shepard was born on May 16, 1935, in Ontario, Canada. She was a lovely looking lady and always put herself together nicely, wearing only the finest clothing. Despite her beautiful appearance, Shepard remained unmarried, and at 52, she wondered what was wrong with her.
That same year in 1988, Shepard met and married a man named Russell Shepard. However, during their marriage, Shepard’s eyes shifted elsewhere and she became interested in another man. His name was Gordon Stewart and he worked as a factory worker who was still grieving the loss of his wife. Shepard saw Gordon as an easy target and soon she would make her move…
Shepard couldn’t help herself and she had an affair with Gordon while still being married to Russell. The pair even got married in Las Vegas despite Shepard still being married to Russell. It was a complete mess and as fast as their relationship started, their honeymoon was just as brief.
It Wasn’t All Roses
Gordon began having money problems and was excessively drinking. He would pass out and wind up in the hospital or jail and doctors were finding drugs in his system, even though he never took any. Gordon’s family felt he wasn’t himself anymore, and they were becoming suspicious…
Something Seemed Off
Gordon was losing weight fast and his bank account was being drained. They knew Shepard had access to prescription drugs and they knew there was something strange going on. Still, Gordon tried to save his marriage and in the spring of 1991, the couple relocated to Dartmouth for a change of scenery. They were only there for one week when they set out on a Sunday drive and Gordon never came back…
Trying To Kill Him?
That day, Gordon was almost comatosed from drugs and alcohol. He realized Shepard was the one administering them to him and when he confronted her, things turned ugly. Despite being weak and frail, Gordon was able to stick up for himself, and when Shepard realized this, she took her opportunity to end his life for good…
One Husband Down
Shepard ran over Gordon with their car and hours later she went to the police station. She reported she had been raped and that she tried to outrun the rapist by running over him! Despite her convincing story, the cops weren’t buying it. If Shepard really was innocent, she would have stayed at the police station and explained herself.
Out For Money?
As a result of the full investigation, it was determined that Shepard’s motive was monetary. Gordon had a pension, and as his wife, Shepard was entitled to benefits. She was held on a charge of murder as two people saw her kill Gordon and flee the scene. Still, Shepard was able to walk out of jail…
Melissa Ann Shepard The Actress
Shepard out of prison on a reduced charge of manslaughter and with a sentence that only amounted to two years inside. Here’s the ironic kicker- she was able to use the whole experience to launch a new career.
It Was All Lies…
Shepard became a poster girl for abused women, starring in a major documentary by the national film board. She started serving her sentence in the notorious prison for women in Kingston, but it became obvious that she didn’t plan to be there for long…
A New Woman?
She won parole in 1994 and before long was making public appearances. Throughout the 90s, Shepard became a familiar face and familiar voice in the media. She became a nationally known spokesperson for battered wives and moved to Florida to start a new life.
A Church Lady
Shepard began going to church to refresh her image and there she met yet another “easy target.” Robert Friedrich was recovering from losing from wife and Shepard believed the holy spirit told her that this would be her next husband. Robert’s family in Boston were shocked when they heard their father mention marriage…
Robert’s son, Denis Friedrich told his father that he doesn’t know who Shepard is, but she’s either very unstable or she’s a conniver. Still, just three days after their first meeting, the couple were engaged and Robert sought approval from his skeptical family.
Emptying His Bank Account
Denis could not approve of the marriage because he believed you have to get to know someone first. Despite this, the pair married after only a month-long engagement. The newlyweds set out on a five-month honeymoon that covered much of North America and cost a whopping $250,000!
Robert was 82-years-old and seemed happy, however, his family started noticing changes. Robert had always been robust, but after Shepard came into his life, he became unsteady on his feet. While nobody wanted to jump to conclusions, they were suspicious that their dad was being drugged.
Trying To Kill Him
A disturbing pattern seemed to be emerging as Robert would fall down, hurt himself and wind up in the hospital. When Robert went to visit his family, he’d seem fine, but if you’d catch him on the phone while he was at home, he sounded dopey. Rightfully so, the family were becoming progressively more suspicious…
Shepard Threatened To Sue
The family decided it was time to step in and they contacted the elder abuse agency in Florida. After the agency visited the home, they came back with a recommendation that Robert have 24/7 in-home nursing care to make sure he was being properly cared for. Yet, Shepard did not allow that to happen and threatened to sue the elder abuse agency!
Changing Robert’s Will
The agency eventually backed off and soon Robert’s other son Bob received a very disturbing message from Shepard. She said that they were going to see a lawyer and that Robert was going to change his will leaving his sons with nothing. The money was now going to go to the Christian retreat, and naturally, Shephard was getting the rest…
Another Husband Gone
The family was furious and after being married to Shepard for only 18 months, Robert died and was cremated without an autopsy. The family was left with photographs and a lot of sad memories. Shepard eventually sold the house and pocketed about $100,000. By 2004, after Robert’s passing, Shepard met and married Alexander Strategos and wound up drugging and killing him as well.
A Free Woman
Shepard served five years in prison but not for the murder of Alexander. She was arrested on charges of grand theft and forgery after withdrawing $20,000 from her deceased husband’s bank account. Shepard was deported back to Canada and did the same thing to her next husband. Yet despite all of her murders, Shepard is now a free woman.
