Divorces can be brutal, especially when children are involved. The battle over child support can get ugly, and you may wonder how you were ever married to a person that could be acting the way they are now.
This is exactly what one ex-wife wondered when her ex-husband refused to pay child support for their son. She demanded answers and wound up getting much more than she bargained for…
Who Is Lisa Beverley?
Lisa Beverley, 30, thought she met the man of her dreams when she first laid eyes on Adam Mann, 29. Being that she was not much older than Mann, she believed they had a lot in common and could see a long-term future with him.
In 2001, the couple got married and dreamed of having a child together. They were madly in love and couldn’t wait to start the next chapter of their lives. Soon, Lisa became pregnant and they were over the moon when they learned the sex of their child!
After the Manns discovered they were having a baby boy, they decided to name him Shaun and patiently awaited his arrival. Nine months later, Shaun was born but the couple soon learned it wasn’t all roses. Lisa had many sleepless nights up with Shaun and soon her relationship with her husband would begin to suffer.
Numerous differences led to the deterioration of the couple’s relationship and they wound up divorcing in 2007. This was not something Lisa ever thought would happen to her, but her seemingly perfect life was about to turn into an even bigger nightmare…
Things Were Getting Worse…
Lisa’s divorce with Mann became brutal and bitter. Besides losing the man she thought she would be with forever, Lisa now had to explain to their son that mommy and daddy were no longer together. This was very difficult for her toddler to understand and Mann was about to add even more turmoil to their lives.
Defaulting On Child Support Payments
Mann decided he was not going to pay child support, even though he had a job at the time working as a chef at Harvester restaurant in Dartford, England. He was required to pay Lisa weekly to care for their son, and he was defaulting on every payment. Lisa decided reached out to the Child Support Agency for help…
After Lisa spoke to the agency, alerting them to the situation, they decided to contact Mann. They sent a letter to him informing him how much he was required to pay – approximately $22 per week in child support payments, and Mann told the CSA a fabricated story about why he couldn’t pay.
He Had Met Someone Else
Mann called the Child Support Agency and told them he was homeless and refused to pay until a DNA test was done to prove the boy was his son. Lisa couldn’t believe what she was hearing and she became increasingly angry when she learned Mann had met another woman and was now living with her…
Taunting Mann On Facebook
The woman’s name was Elizabeth Kilgallon, 27, and she had three children of her own. At that point, everything was crystal clear for Lisa and she realized Mann had been using his money to take care of Elizabeth’s three children instead of their son. Mann now owed Lisa over $500 in child support and Lisa turned to Facebook to express her frustration.
September 14, 2009
Lisa shared a very angry post with her friends saying, “He is a waste of space and anyone who knows him will tell you the same. He can’t look after his own kids but can take someone else’s on. He is a joke.” On September 14, 2009, Lisa continued her rant saying even more horrible things…
Lisa wrote, “Now who’s laughing? You have got done big time by the CS so now leave us alone for good. Your son hates you and so do I.” She must have thought humiliating Mann would get him to pay child support, but that’s the furthest thing from what happened.
That following morning on September 15, 2009, Lisa’s 5-year-old son found his mother unresponsive on their living room floor. In the instant that his mom went into a diabetic coma, he was taught to call his grandfather, Stephen Beverley, so that’s what he did. When Stephen arrived at Lisa’s home, the scene that confronted him was one of unimaginable horror…
Lisa had been beaten to death and she lay in a pool of blood. She was immediately brought to the hospital, but her wounds were gruesome. It was apparent she had been savagely stabbed, having wounds on her throat and cuts on her neck. As if that wasn’t enough, most of her ribs were broken and she was found to have bruising all over her body.
Trying To Defend Herself…
Some of the wounds were defensive, and it was obvious she had tried to protect herself from her attacker. Detectives jumped on the case and learned that right before her death, she was in a bitter dispute with Adam Mann over child support payments. The night of her murder, he was even caught traveling towards her home…
Lisa’s laptop and phone were discovered at Mann’s girlfriend Elizabeth’s home and his co-workers captured him at work throwing away his clothes. Even though all of the evidence was there, Mann told the court another story…
Mann claimed he was going to Lisa’s house to commit a staged burglary and when he arrived, he discovered she had been killed by a mystery intruder. Judge Paul Worsley said, “You went under cover of darkness to Lisa’s home, wearing dark clothing and gloves.”
Elizabeth even gave him a false alibi claiming they were in bed together at 9 pm. Phone evidence disputed that however when it showed the couple had been calling each other between those times. Elizabeth had also wiped evidence from the computer which Mann had taken with him from Lisa’s home.
They were trying to cover up the evidence but Prosecutor Jeremy Donne said, “A painstaking and very detailed police investigation has uncovered a wealth of evidence to build a compelling case against him. Despite this, Mann denied he murdered Lisa and Elizabeth denies perverting the course of justice…
Convicted Of Murder
The Judge wound up convicting Mann of murder and sentenced him to a minimum of 24 years in prison. “You left Lisa’s body to be discovered by her five-year-old son Shaun,” he said. “I doubt if Shaun will ever truly be able to erase from his mind the sight of his mother lying bloodied and lifeless on the sitting room floor.”
Even worse, the Judge believed that Mann showed absolutely no remorse. “In my judgment, you have shown no flicker of remorse. I have come to the conclusion that society needs to be protected from you for a considerable period of time.” Lisa’s family is still mourning their loss.
