Some folks spend all their time caught up in jealousy, wishing they were more like other people. Maybe they envy a neighbor’s new car or a former coworker’s fancy new job. What they don’t realize is that things are not usually exactly as they appear on the surface. How can you ever truly know all a person’s secrets?
You may think someone has a fabulous, worry-free life, but you can’t be sure. In the following story, we’ll uncover how one woman’s commitment to her “perfect” life in New York City completely backfired, unveiling the shocking skeletons in her closet…
Anna was born on January 1, 1967, in Whitby, North Yorks, Scotland, and came from humble beginnings. When she was just a baby, she was adopted by an older couple from nearby Kirkliston who already had their hands full with five children of their own. John Tennant was a gardener and his wife, Annie, a maid.
Life Outside Cheesetown
The Tennants tried their best to give Anna a good life in the bizarrely nicknamed Cheesetown, just eight miles from the center of the country’s hilly capital city, Edinburgh. Anna attended the local schools and had friends growing up, but she always had dreams of getting away from the small town. By the time she was a teenager, she had grown increasingly restless and decided to plan her escape…
When Anna was still just a teenager, she ran away from her family. She had plans that felt much bigger than her small Scottish hometown and left for America. But before she would build her empire, she fell in love for the very first time. Anna was a young bride to her husband, Fernando Pak, with whom she had two daughters, Suzanna and Noelanie.
Love & Marriage
Sadly, the marriage couldn’t last and the two divorced. What was a 24-year-old divorced mother of two little girls to do to support herself? As fate would have it, that Anna met husband number two that same year. She had much more in common with the Italian-born Dario Gristina, who was also recently divorced and settled in had lived in Upstate New York. They quickly married and had a son, Stefano. Anna finally had the perfect family, but she craved more in her life…
Just Another John
And so did her new husband. In 1998, after a just few short years of marriage, Dario Gristina was arrested for soliciting a prostitute in Manhattan. Anna could never be with him after that and they divorced the same year. However, it seemed she wasn’t that innocent, either. “She could be very sweet, but she could also manipulate a situation if she wanted something,” said a source who knew the couple back then to the NY Daily News.
Cougar in the Catskills
Anna wouldn’t stay single for long. One night while she was out dancing at a club in the small Catskills Mountain town of Monticello, New York she met Kelvin Gorr, a very handsome, much younger man. Anna quickly seduced him too, much to the surprise of many of his friends. “It was a rushed marriage,” a friend of Gorr’s later said. “Everyone was like, ‘Who is this old lady?’”
In 2001, Anna wore a flowing white gown as she married Kelvin in front of an Eiffel Tower replica in Las Vegas. She and her “boy toy” third husband also posed half-naked for some bizarre wedding photos. Kelvin worked in real estate and made headlines as a teen for saving his mom from a knife-wielding rapist. It seemed Kelvin could give her the kind of life she really wanted. The couple soon welcomed Anna’s fourth child and second son, Nicolas.
Third Time’s A Charm
The family lived in a sprawling ranch home in the woods away from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan in Monroe, Orange County, New York. By most accounts, Anna lived a very normal, happy life in Monroe. Neighbors knew her as a fabulous housewife who had a hunky husband and was completely obsessed with animals. Surprisingly, that was also what most people recalled as being the strangest thing about the Scottish-born Soccer Mom…
Passion For Pigs
Anna was so seemingly perfect, in fact, that she even spent as much time as possible volunteering at Ross Hill Farm, a pig rescue in Philadelphia. Besides her four children and her two bulldogs, the Gorr home also belonged to six giant pot-bellied pigs rescued from the farm. “You always hear the squeals,” a neighbor later told NY Daily News. “Then you hear a long brake from the cars going by… last week one got loose.”
Although Anna broke all ties with her family back in Scotland, after marrying Kelvin, she eventually got back in contact with some of her old schoolmates: if only to brag about her life of luxury in New York. She posted glamour shots with her young, buff husband on a school reunion website and wanted to make it very clear she had come a long way from Kirkliston and really hit the big time.
Building An Empire
She told her old classmates she was a CEO who was “Working very hard,” and “Building an empire.” Yet Anna had purposely left out all the important details of her supposedly very successful venture. And no one back home knew Anna as any sort of businesswoman. She was a happy, pretty, mom-next-door type and no one ever suspected otherwise.
At least, that was Anna’s life by day, anyway. What no one in her suburban community knew was that by night, the hockey-loving housewife had a big secret. Anna Gristina would mysteriously get into her car and drive about 50 miles south to Manhattan’s Upper East Side. She hadn’t been lying about being a CEO, after all. But why would she keep her successful business so hush-hush?
East 78th Street
In her baseball cap, ponytail, flannel shirt, and jeans, Anna Gristina looked like a typical suburbanite, but she had been hiding a big secret. One she had been keeping for nearly 15 years now. In her spare time, Anna would head about 50 miles south to East 78th Street in Manhattan where she traded in her mom persona for a more lucrative lifestyle, acting as mother hen to a group of gorgeous women.
Anna Gristina had been secretly managing a harem of mostly Eastern European beauties on the Upper East Side. From Penthouse babes to Playboy models, they were all part of a high-end, underground, and very illegal prostitution ring that catered to the most elite men in Manhattan. And at the very heart of the brothel’s massive operation was their fearless madam, “Anna Scotland,” who was making money hand over foot.
The brothel’s clientele was among the richest of the rich who felt safe that Madam Scotland would keep their sexy secrets. However, Anna just couldn’t keep her big mouth shut about all her friends in high places and how she was untouchable to the authorities. The now 44-year-old had no idea that she had bragged to the wrong men: undercover FBI agents who had been gathering evidence on her for the past five years.
The Hooker Booker
Yet it was a confession and plea deal from Anna’s former “hooker booker” accomplice, Jaynie Mae Baker, that finally did in the millionaire madam in February 2012. Anna Gristina was arrested shortly after an appointment with a bigwig banker at Morgan Stanley and her high-profile arrest made headlines for weeks. And the question on everyone’s minds was who else did Anna Gristina have listed in her little black book?
Little Black Book
CEOs, famous financiers, elected officials, celebrities, and two billionaires and even members of royalty were revealed to pay $1,000 an hour to visit the Madam’s elite brothel. Some even spent up to $25,000 to whisk the women away to Europe or Asia for the weekend. “These are men who have their own jets. They have collections of cars,” a former escort named “Lizzie” told New York Daily News.
She’s A Professional
Anna screened all her powerful clients and would keep them happy with women in exquisite shape. Although the working girls wouldn’t see their brothel boss, they said Anna’s operation treated them with respect, kept them safe from dangerous clients, and she even took a 10% less cut than the underground industry’s 50/50 standard. “There has never been any violence, any drugs or any underage girls. Never,” her 38-year-old husband, Kelvin Gorr told the press. If nothing else, at least Anna was a professional.
Yet the one thing all Anna Gristina’s clients had in common was a lot to lose if their secrets were revealed. After pleading guilty to a single count of promoting prostitution in September 2012, Anna hinted about a wealthy sports enthusiast, a politically prominent city member, and even a New York lawyer. Yet besides revealing out of control actor Charlie Sheen contracted HIV from a transsexual client, Anna Gristina swears she won’t snitch on her clients… at least, yet.
The Soccer Mom Madam
The Soccer Mom Madam raked in a reported $10 million over 15 years and evaded jail with a sentence of just five years probation on account she leave the pimping game for good. Anna has since opted for a questionably-quieter life, moving to a pig farm with her youngest son and boy toy husband before dumping him, too. In 2016, she made headlines again after being stalked and harassed a new ex-boyfriend. What is it about Anna Gristina’s power over men? Hopefully one day she’ll spill all her secrets…
