When an adult takes a career in protecting children, everyone expects that they will be as responsible as possible for the young lives they are protecting. The job comes with a lot of responsibility and commitment and needs to be taken seriously at all times.
When Joel secured a position as the founding executive director of the international organization Youth to End Sexual Violence everyone had high hopes for him and his vital mission. But Joel had some skeletons in his closet which he just couldn’t get rid of…
Having already served as the youth ambassador for the United Nations special representative on sexual violence in conflict, Joel was perfectly placed to enter his new role working for Youth to End Sexual Violence. Joel was passionate about his job and was always the first one in the office in the morning.
Joel was the perfect man for the job, having already worked on the steering committee of the International Campaign to Stop Rape & Gender Violence in Conflict. That group is an umbrella for more than 5,000 global organizations dealing with human rights. The new job was a very logical step for Joel…
Joel was so involved in the world of human rights for children that he met such stars as Angelina Jolie as well as many others. When he was asked to give a TED talk in 2015, even though he was only 19, he gladly accepted the challenge and delivered what many people considered a great speech.
As well as his activism, Joel was also a solid writer, having written an article for HuffPost in 2014, specifically writing about children subjected to sexual abuse, “In so many conflicts across the globe, children’s bodies are quickly becoming sites of violence, where rape is used to terrorize and degrade entire communities,” he wrote…
It all started for Joel after he graduated high school in Port Charlotte, Fla, and then spent a year working at the UN. Having attended the American University in Washington before transferring to Columbia University, he focused on General Studies but also studied classical piano at a highly prestigious school.
Nobel Peace Prize
Life was good for Joel, his job was paying well, and he was making a real name for himself in the community. In 2015, Joel was one of 200 people nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work helping children who were the subjects of human trafficking as well as adult sexual abuse…
When the police showed up to arrest Joel everyone was shocked. What made it even worse was the charges that Joel was subject to, including, attempting to sexually exploit a child, enticing a child to engage in sexual activity and possessing child pornography. How could a man like Joel Davis possibly be involved in such actions? Something just didn’t add up.
Between May and June of this year, Joel was caught out by undercover FBI agents who were working questionable website associated with child pornography. During that time, according to the FBI, Joel tried to arrange meetings with a 9-year-old girl, another 8-year-old girl, and even a 2-year-old boy!
Unfortunately for Joel, the FBI was setting him up to fall as they asked him to send over the child porn images which he had on his phone and computer. He also sent video clips of children being sexually abused and made his intention to have sex with a minor abundantly clear, unaware he was chatting with an undercover agent.
When pushed by the agent, Joel even admitted his guilt, telling them that had already met a 13-year-old boy from the gay dating app, Grindr. He allegedly chatted with the child on Snapchat and then engaged in sexual activity with him at Davis’s Manhattan apartment…
FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge William F. Sweeney Jr. said about the case, “Having started an organization that pushed for the end of sexual violence, Davis displayed the highest degree of hypocrisy by his alleged attempts to sexually exploit multiple minors,” adding, “As if this wasn’t repulsive enough, Davis allegedly possessed and distributed utterly explicit images of innocent infants and toddlers being sexually abused by adults.”
When the FBI posted a message on a fetish website that read, “Looking for other no limits TABOO pervs in DC area. Bi dad here,” a person with the username yngperv22 responded with, “Need me to come down and watch ur kids for a night : ).” Shockingly, yngperv22 was Joel Davis.
Joel had no idea that he was chatting with an FBI agent, and that meant that plenty of text messages were shared between the two. Davis made it clear to the agent that he was into children ages “zero and up,” also confirming that he was “no limits.”
For whatever reason, Davis felt really comfortable chatting with this person who he didn’t realize was an agent. he even admitted to the agent that he had previously had sexual relations with a 9-month-old boy, a 6-year-old girl, and a 7-year-old boy. What’s worse is that Davis even had photo evidence to prove his claims, which he sent to the agent, sealing his own fate.
Davis clearly had no idea that he was being stung, but the FBI needed as much time as possible to gather evidence so they could have a watertight case. At one point, Davis asked the agent to take nude pictures and videos of the agent’s supposed 9-year-old daughter as well as the 2-year-old daughter of the agent’s girlfriend.
During a later conversation, Davis allegedly pressed the agent about meeting the 2-year-old daughter of his girlfriend, asking, “When do u have that baby alone next,” and adding, “I mean even for a few mins enough to FaceTime.”
Nowhere To Hide
With the mounting evidence against him, Davis was now in no position to deny the claims against him. As such, Davis admitted to having had sexual relations with infants and toddlers in the past and also admitted that the thousands of child porn images on his phone belonged to him.
U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman, in the Southern District of New York, released a statement about the case, claiming that Davis’s conduct was “as unfathomable as it is sickening,” adding, “Joel Davis started an organization devoted to stopping sexual violence, while allegedly engaged in the duplicitous behavior of sharing explicit images of infants engaged in sexual activity.”
There’s no question that Joel Davis is a hypocrite and liar, and furthermore, a man who used his position working with children to exploit them. Even though he described himself as a proud “human rights defender,” nothing could be further from the truth in this instance.
With a story as tough as this one, it’s hard to end on a positive note considering the actions of the subject of this case. Having been sexually abused as a child himself, Davis said his life goal was to prevent such things from happening to other children. The fact he couldn’t control his own perverted desires and even used his position to rape children is something that is hard to fathom or comprehend for any right-minded person.
