Strangers Buy Car For Man Who Walks Miles To Work

While one Texas man doesn’t normally pick strangers up on the side of the road, he felt compelled to stop and ask if a young man needed a ride or any help when he saw him walking down the road in a work uniform one hot day.

Andy Mitchell pulled over and offered to give 20-year-old Justin Korva to work. “Meet my friend Justin. I picked this boy up this am and gave him a ride to work at Taco Casa. He told me he walks 3 miles to work and home everyday,” Mitchell wrote in a post to Facebook.

“To all the people that say they want to work but can’t find a job or don’t have a vehicle, all I can say is you don’t want it bad enough,” Mitchell wrote. “I usually don’t post stuff on [Facebook] like that. For whatever reason, I just felt compelled to do it. The situation of this young man inspired me,” Mitchell said. “To have the ability to get to and from work is a huge thing.”

A friend saw his Facebook post and knew they had to try and get the kid a car. Mitchell and his friend left a collection box at a local diner, and within 30 hours, they had raised $5,500. “We had a lot of people in the community of Rockwall that donated,” Mitchell said. “Too many names to count really.”

With the donations, Mitchell bought Korva a 2004 Toyota Camry, a year of car insurance, two years of free oil changes, and a $500 gas card. Recently, Mitchell went down to Taco Casa and presented the car to Korva, who was so stunned he could only manage a hug. “It doesn’t have to be a car. It can just be any small thing that you want to do to help somebody on the side. You never know how it’s going to change their life,” Mitchell said.
