Hope For Paws received a call about a tiny stray dog under the freeway from a family who had been feeding her for two months.
Rescuers Eldad Hagar and Lis Chiarelli found the dog peacefully sleeping by a fence, but she woke up before they were able to catch her. Unfortunately, the dog was so frightened, she ran under a nearby sewer system and was perched on a dangerous ledge.
This not only posed an extra challenge to the rescuers but was an unsafe situation for the dog to be in because she could have fallen down into the sewer. Hagar and Chiarelli grabbed their gentle snares and inched them as slowly as they could to the dog without frightening her.
It was a very scary situation as she could have fallen off the ledge at any moment. It took a while, but eventually they were able to ensnare the dog and get her out of the sewer safely.
They had to secure a net around when she went to bite, but after she warmed up to rescuers, the tiny dog buried her head against Eldad’s leg and this melted our heart!
From that moment forward, the dog, now named Leah, had a completely different demeanor and all it took was some tender love and care.
Leah was brought back to the vet and bonded with a fellow rescue dog Penelope. Once she got a clean bill of health, Leah was put up for adoption.
