When Imgur enthusiast Matt Unsworth posted “Found a safe in our warehouse,” online, people were intrigued, and for good reason…
The post continued, “Guy didn’t pay his bill so my boss said I could open it.” So here we have a mystery safe, presumably with mystery items inside, at the hands of Matt, and the whole thing is his! He was pessimistic at first, “Usually these are filled with garbage and old receipts.” However, that negativity soon dissipated…Let’s find out why…
Elsafe is a well-known and very sturdy safe manufacturer, with years of experience. A simple enough combination lock was all that separated Matt from the contents of the safe…
The issue Matt now faced was how the heck to get inside the safe. These things tend to be rugged, for good reason, and this particular safe was old school, and Matt needed to use his common sense.
Matt shared how he used his common sense, “Found a guy on Craigslist,” he wrote. “He came over and opened it in under five minutes. Super secure safe.”
Gold or Garbage?
Matt sheepishly opened his new safe, wondering if all the hassle was worth it. He had already spent vital time and money, and there wasn’t a moment to lose.
At first, all Matt pulled out was these useful but worthless coin holders. You know, those ones form the 80s, which were all the rage for like two years.
Things were not looking good for Matt, as the next thing he pulled out was coin tubes, but they too were empty, and totally useless to Matt.
Matt was on the verge of giving up at this point, after he pulled out a few old and rusty padlocks, which didn’t even have keys with them. Was the whole thing going to be just a complete waste of time?
The contents of the mystery safe started getting at least a little more interesting, with some small aged bottles of liqor, along with some old allspice and glycerin?!
Finally! Perhaps Matt’s efforts were all worth it after all. They looked like gold, and were clearly collector’s coins, but how much were they worth? How rare or common? Matt was full of questions now.
Matt captioned this find with, “No idea who signed it,” although the baseball is inside one of those protective cases, suggesting it may well be worth something. Time to think about getting this stuff appraised by a professional.
Matt then found that there was a second compartment inside the safe, and he started to get even more excited…
Get ready for a shocker…Matt found stacks of dollar bills, real dollar bills! Five stacks of fresh Benjamins to be more precise, in other words, $50,000! But what happened next was even more astounding…
Guess what Matt found behind the five stack of $50,000? You guessed it, another stack of the same, meaning Matt was cash in, with at least $100,000 to his name!
As if the American dollars weren’t enough, Matt found himself removing stacks of brightly colored foreign currency, unaware whether it was worth something , or nothing.
Having exhausted the safe of all its cash, Matt reached in even deeper, and found something even more valuable than the cash…
Those shiny plates you are looking at are in fact kilobars, whoch contain at least 32.15 ounces of gold each. Each one is worth 50, yes $50,000!
By this stage you are most likely hating on Matt, as it dawns on you just how lucky this guy got, with this safe. He found gold bars! We kid you not, and you can see them in his hands above. Each one is worth a staggering $600,000 per!
Matt knew people would be hating him but he cared not, as he proudly took pictures of the amazing stash he had found, showing off for all to see.
Okay so it’s getting crazy now. How many gold bars did you pull out of that safe Matt? Like 10 million dollars worth? Who would leave that kinda money and gold in an abandoned safe…
As you had already suspected, it was a hoax, the whole thing, a HOAX! Matt likes to plat around with movie props in his job at Universal Studios. But as one commenter on Imagur pointed out, “I’m not even mad cause at least I’m no longer jealous.” Well done Matt!
